John Harris was born in Wagga Wagga and lives and works now in Wollongong on the lands of the Dharawal people.

 

In 2000 John was lucky enough to be awarded a Samstag Scholarship and travelled to the United States to attend New York University for several years, where he completed his MFA.

 

John is currently studying towards his PhD at the University of Wollongong and teaching into the Media Arts program there.

 

He has shown nationally with solo exhibitions at C3 Melbourne, Canberra Contemporary Art Space and the Institute of Modern Art, Brisbane.  Internationally he has shown at NYU and University of California, Irvine galleries and the Cité Internationale des arts, Paris.

 

His emerging bodies of work involve experimental film photographic practices, including working with archives and collections, photogram and other lensless darkroom techniques and large format field photography.
