Machine Form Overlay 1 & 2, (2021), Inkjet Print from found large format negatives, 1 x 1.2m.  From the series 'Remote Sensing - Part 1'
‘Remote Sensing’ is a developing body of work that is a response to a large archive of 4 x 5 inch NASA negatives and 16mm films, dating from the Gemini era, that have been collected by the artist over several years.  These original negatives were produced as part of the manufacture process of rocket engines and other vehicle parts in the early 60’s and offer a compelling window into a pivotal moment of the twentieth century, the time just before humankind’s landing on the lunar surface.  At a time in which new horizons of space travel are again on the agenda, these often double-exposed and overlaid images speak ultimately to human frailty and the precious nature of life on earth.
